A fire that destroyed the boardwalk at Service Club Park in Venice may lead to a new, citywide ordinance.
The city council next week will take up an ordinance that was in part drafted by fire officials.

Under the proposed law, fires would be prohibited in all parks, beaches, and recreational areas, except for cooking fires using the city owned grills in designated picnic areas, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.

The city council preliminarily passed the ordinance last week. A second reading is set for a week from today.
