That process was moved forward by the city of Venice as Venice Realty Group will have the chance to negotiate to build a hotel and retail complex on the 11.6 acres of land. The other bidder, Michigan-based JCRE Development was supposed to be able to show its hand on July 11, but Venice Realty said if that happens, they would pull its offer. The Venice Realty Group proposes to build a four-story, 116-room hotel that also would include a 5,000-square-foot meeting room. Retail buildings, including shops and restaurants would be included.
