A new sign is turning heads at the University of South Florida’s Tampa campus. It’s a duck crossing sign, and it’s been installed near the Crescent Hill Garage on USF Holly Court. The sign is the result of an online fundraiser organized by Kaylee Ortega, a USF community member who wanted to protect the ducks and ducklings that call the campus home. Sadly, some of those birds had been hit by vehicles on that busy stretch of road.
Ortega’s campaign isn’t just about one sign. She’s said she hopes this is the first of several wildlife-safety improvements on campus. It’s a simple, clear reminder for drivers to slow down and pay attention, especially near the garage entrance and exit.
