Two people were rescued by the Venice Fire Department after their boat broke down one mile off the South Jetty on Saturday.

Crews were called out after a resident reported seeing a sailboat in heavy seas around 5pm, saying the boat looked ‘dead in the water.’

Firefighters found the 35′ sailboat had become tangled around crab trap lines in nearly 9 foot seas. The boat was finally freed by cutting the lines and had to be towed in.

One person on board was treated for sea sickness.
