Police arrested a felon after finding him with drugs, guns, and nearly $3,000 in cash on Sunday morning in Fort Myers. Officials said someone reported gunshots shortly after midnight at 3538 Seminole Avenue, near Edgewood Renaissance Academy. When officers arrived, they saw two men get out of a car and start walking away.
Officers eventually caught up with the two men, identified as 18-year-old Jose Benitez and 19-year-old Jaquan Napper. Outside of the car that Benitez and Napper exited was a bag filled with a variety of drugs and two semi-automatic handguns, police said. Officers also found $2,983 in cash in Benitez’s pocket. Police booked Benitez on charges of trafficking in cocaine, possession of marijuana and controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a school, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
