Mote Marine Laboratory has a new patient, nicknamed ‘Toughy.’ The loggerhead sea turtle was found struggling to swim near Knight Island, just south of Stump Pass Inlet in Charlotte County. A passing boater noticed the turtle and reported it to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. A team led by the FWC took the turtle to Mote, where it will be treated. Scientists say the turtle had deep cuts, but is expected to survive.
