Subtropical Storm Alberto is washing out beach and outdoor plans this Memorial Day from Pensacola to Miami.

Lifeguards posted red flags along the white sands of Pensacola Beach, where swimming and wading were banned amid high surf and dangerous conditions. It also triggered mandatory evacuations of some small, sparsely populated Gulf Coast barrier islands in Franklin County.

Although the storm will not make landfall locally, a flood warning is in effect for the Myakka River until Friday.

A tropical storm warning has been canceled for points south of Longboat Key- it remains in effect from the middle of Longboat Key to the Mississippi/Alabama border.
