Here’s an update on work involving the Gasparilla Pass Train Trestle. The West Coast Inland Navigation District, in partnership with Charlotte County Community Services, is removing and repairing multiple sections of the Trestle. Work has begun on the closed section of the Boca Grande Fishing Pier and additional closures of the Pier are anticipated beginning February 12th. The trestle is being repaired because of deteriorated conditions and concerns regarding boater safety. During this time there will be some closures of the channel at the trestle’s swing bridge; check local notices to mariners for more details. Work is anticipated to take 3-4 months. Barge activity, as well as divers, will be in the pass for the removal and repair of portion of the train trestle, so you’re asked to be cautious of this activity when enjoying the Gasparilla Pass.
