An 18-year-old woman was killed in a Sunday evening crash on Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Port Charlotte woman was driving a car southbound on Tamiami Trail, approaching a posted stop sign at the intersection of Conway Boulevard around 5:15 p.m. She had a 17-year-old girl as her passenger.

A 26-year-old woman from Brandon was driving a car eastbound on Conway Boulevard, approaching Tamiami Trail.

The 18-year-old failed to stop for the posted stop sign and T-boned the other car. She was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries and later pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges or citations have been issued at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of the woman who passed away in this tragic accident.
