Scientists at Mote Marine Laboratory announced Tuesday a third pygmy killer whale was found on Longboat Key yesterday morning.
This comes after two other pygmy killer whales were found beached near Clearwater last week.
Stranding Investigations Program manager Gretchen Lovewell told the Herald-Tribune that all three animals are still in critical condition.
The red tide is not thought to be to blame for their illnesses- the species typically live far offshore, away from coastal algae blooms.
