Florida drivers could soon see tougher texting while driving laws. Right now, Florida is one of only four states where officers can’t pull drivers over simply for texting and driving. As the law states, drivers can only be ticketed for texting while driving if they’re already being pulled over for another offense like speeding. All that, though, could soon change thanks to a new state senate bill moving through the legislature. That bill would make texting and driving a primary offense- meaning police could pull you over if they see a phone in your hand. State lawmakers have previously tried before to buckle down and tighten the distracted driving laws, only to see bills stall in Tallahassee.
