Charlotte County has instituted a temporary ban on all outdoor burning, including fireworks and sparklers.

Charlotte County Fire and EMS stated that the ban is due to ongoing drought-like conditions and windy weather, which can exacerbate fire spread and intensity.

The ban covers recreational fires, yard waste burning, and pile burning for land clearing.

Controlled burns authorized by the Florida Forest Service are exempt from this ban.

The ban will stay in effect until the Board of County Commissioners decides to repeal it.
