A Tampa middle school teacher is facing serious charges after deputies say he sent inappropriate messages to a former student. Christian Schneider, 31, who teaches at Memorial Middle School, was arrested Aug. 14. He’s charged with two counts of solicitation or possession of child sexual abuse material and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office began investigating on July 28 after learning about the messages to a former student at Franklin Middle School. During the investigation, Schneider admitted to inappropriate communication with the victim dating back to 2023. The sheriff’s office says the investigation remains active, meaning more details could come to light.
This case raises big questions about how schools monitor teacher-student interactions, especially digital communication. For parents across the Suncoast, it’s a reminder to stay engaged and aware. What do you think schools should do differently to prevent these situations? Share your thoughts.
