A suspect wanted out of Collier County was taken into custody after a stand-off in Punta Gorda’s Marion Avenue area, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. The standoff began when law enforcement attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect fled a short distance before barricading themselves in a vehicle.Nearby businesses were advised to stay inside and close their doors. Law enforcement treated the situation as though the suspect was armed based on information provided by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.The standoff lasted for several hours until the suspect was taken into custody, and there was no threat to the public. The suspect sustained a minor medical injury during the arrest and was being transported. Chris Hall, a public information officer for the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, stated that they believed the suspect to be armed, leading to the standoff.
