13 years ago yesterday, Hurricane Charley roared into Charlotte County and made landfall as a Category 4 storm. Landfall was first made around 345pm in Cayo Costa, then again around an hour later in Punta Gorda with sustained winds of 130 miles per hour. In all, Charley caused more than $15 billion in damage and was blamed for 10 deaths. The National Hurricane Center -as always- is warning residents that even though the Tropics are quiet now, to heed all warnings and evacuation notices if and when they get issued.
