The Sarasota metro area has been named the most dangerous place in Florida for alcohol-related car accidents.

The Suncoast has averaged more than 12 DUI deaths per 100,000 residents over the last three years. That’s double the amount of the second most ‘dangerous’ city, Lakeland.

The study comes out just days after a fatal DUI crash in North Port and weeks after a fatal DUI outside the Braves’ new Spring Training facility.

In response to the study, ABC-7 reports the Florida Highway Patrol says they will be teaming up with local law enforcement to “bring more awareness of the dangers of drunk driving in schools.”
