Republican State Rep Joe Gruters is looking to move from the Florida House of Representatives to the Florida State Senate. He announced yesterday he plans to run for Sarasota’s open Senate seat left vacant, since Greg Steube is running for Congress. Gruters will run for the District 23 seat, which covers Sarasota County and part of western Charlotte County. Despite being a historically Republican district, it’s expected Democrats will have their eyes on the seat after Margaret Good’s rather surprising win in a special election for a state House seat last month.
