After undergoing a complete renovation, the former Punta Gorda Speedway reopens today as the 4-17 Southern Speedway and Events. Owners of the three-eights of a mile oval located near Punta Gorda Aiport say 60 cars have pre-registered to compete in four classes today. The schedule for today: at noon, pit gates open. At 4 p.m., general admission gates open. At 6 p.m., heats will start and, at 7 p.m., the featured races are off and running. The event will cost adults 15 dollars; seniors, military and first-responders, 13 dollars; students, 8 dollars. And children five and under, free.
