Training that school personnel would undergo that would allow them to be designated “special deputies” is being discussed in the Florida Legislature. Law enforcement would designate the personnel who could carry weapons on school campuses. Republicans are looking at the idea, which is not necessarily a new idea in an attempt to prevent future school shootings. The voluntary plan is designed to increase the number of armed school personnel that will likely be attached to other legislation asking for more funding for mental health programs and other gun control programs. The idea has been shot down before and is not a partisan issue as many Republicans have said they do not like the idea of more guns on campus.
