The chairman of the South Florida Water Management District Governing Board announced he’ll be stepping down from the board at the request of Governor Ron DeSantis after the February board meeting. Federico Fernandez, whose term on the board was slated through 2020, made the announcement in a memo. He told other members he’s proud of the work the board has accomplished in the last three years, but he also said it is clear that Governor DeSantis wants a board to carry out his own vision. Just days earlier, governing board member Rick Barber vacated his position stating his decision is solely based on the request made by the governor.
