Sixteen households in the Stonewood Creek subdivision in Dallas, Georgia, filed an arbitration complaint on December 22 against national builder D.R. Horton, alleging the Uponor PEX plumbing in their homes began leaking roughly four years after move-in. The homeowners bought between 2018 and 2023, and the complaint claims the builder and manufacturer repaired pipes in other subdivision homes but not theirs. One homeowner, Matthew Ardis, says he’s spent close to $30,000 out of pocket, with total damages estimated above $100,000.
Uponor denies a systemic defect, saying independent experts found no systematic issue with its PEX pipe, and notes it is working toward resolutions. Federal lawsuits in at least 10 states make similar claims, and the company says reviewed suits have resulted in dismissals. D.R. Horton did not respond to inquiries.
Why does this matter on the Suncoast? PEX is a common plumbing material in Florida homes, and many of our subdivisions were built by national companies in the same window. If you own a home built in the last decade, it’s worth locating your warranty, understanding any arbitration clause, and keeping records of plumbing repairs. Have you ever had a home warranty claim denied? Tell us your story.
