Siesta Key residents aren’t happy with the Sarasota County Commission’s change to allow businesses to be built closer to the sidewalk. A proposed rule change would eliminate a requirement that currently states buildings over 35 feet tall must be set back at least 25 feet from the sidewalk. Malcolm Lazin, a representative of the Gulf and Bay Club, told YourObserver.com that β€œIt would change the very nature, fabric and quality of life…that “This would totally undermine the Village, change the ambience of Midnight Pass Road and certainly affect every neighborhood in Siesta Key.” The commission is set to vote on the change Tuesday night.
