A shoplifter is on the loose after winning his first standoff with police. Officials say a man took some things from the 7-Eleven on Tamiami Trial. Charlotte County deputies responded and caught up to the suspect. They get a hold of him. Then, the suspect punches a police dog in the face…gets out of the grip of the officers…takes off running…and jumps into a nearby body of water, swimming away to freedom. They are looking for him at this hour…not for shoplifting…the store isn’t pressing charges. It’s for assault.
