Senator Marco Rubio will be in the area this week, meeting with employees at PGT Custom Windows + Doors, a subsidiary of Venice-based PGT Innovations. Rubio and his staff will be meeting with employees who advanced in their careers through on-the-job training. It’s part of a new initiative to highlight partnerships within industries, as well as the importance of apprenticeships and other work-based learning opportunities. In the upcoming legislative session in Tallahassee, lawmakers plan to draft new workforce development policies to help bridge the skills gap, including partnerships and collaborations between businesses, schools and workforce entities.
