It won’t be a record-setting year for sea turtle nests in Southwest Florida. Hurricane Irma didn’t damage the numbers as much as some thought, and according to Mote Marine Laboratory, just over 4,500 green turtle nests and loggerheads were found from Venice to Longboat Key. The number was down just 85 from 2016, which was double that of 2015. Lido Key, Siesta Key and Longboat Key all had record numbers.
