Sea turtle nests have started hatching all over the region.

However, experts have expressed concern that the area around the Fourth of July can present a dangerous time for them because of people on the beaches.

WBBH-TV reports fireworks and other light near the beach can distract baby turtles looking for the water at night.

Trash and other things that people leave on beaches can get in the turtles’ way, too.

Even sandcastles can cause problems.

Despite record numbers last year, sea turtles remain endangered.
