Now that the new age of school security has become a reality, school districts and law enforcement continues to battle about the cost and who will pay for the sweeping changes. The cities of Sarasota and North Port are the latest to tell school districts that they will not pay for the resource officers. Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight has led the charge in the funding battle. The state allocated nearly $100 million to school districts to hire additional security. The City of Venice has yet to decide and how they will handle the situation.
