A custodian at Venice High School who allegedly made threatening statements in the presence of other custodians on Friday is under investigation by Venice police and the Sarasota County School District. Police say they interviewed the 54-year-old man on Sunday and that he admitted making foolish statements, expressing regret and apologizing. On Monday morning, Venice High Principal Eric Jackson notified parents and staff that classroom doors should be locked and that school resource officers were on duty. An hour later, Jackson said he had been assured by police that additional precautions could be lifted. No charges are pending against the custodian, who has been place on administrative leave.
