Sarasota Woman Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run That Killed Two Young Children

SARASOTA, Fla. – Sarasota police have arrested a 72-year-old woman in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed two young children and left their mother in a coma.

June Fenton was taken into custody on Monday following an investigation into the February 10 crash that claimed the lives of 2-year-old Rio Galliher and 5-month-old Kiylan Galliher. Their mother, 29-year-old Taeler Joy Bennett, remains hospitalized in a coma.

According to Sarasota police, the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. near U.S. 301 (North Washington Boulevard) and 7th Street when Fenton’s Lexus ES300 struck the family as they were crossing the road.

Investigators recovered the vehicle involved in the crash and executed a search warrant to confirm that evidence at the scene matched the suspected car. Authorities say Fenton has cooperated with the investigation leading up to her arrest.

Charges against Fenton have not yet been announced, and the case remains under investigation.
