A youth football event at Booker High School took a frightening turn on July 18 when shots were fired in the parking lot. Sarasota police say no one was injured, but the investigation has led them to a wanted man with a lengthy criminal history. Dameon Jashuan Brydson, 27, is now being sought on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm on school property.
Brydson already has four felony convictions on his record and was on probation for a prior gun case. The incident occurred during a community event hosted by an outside group, and authorities have confirmed that no Booker High School students or staff members were involved. Principal Jamal Crook has been working with police to reassure parents and the community that the campus itself was not the target.
