Sarasota Memorial Hospital has challenged the Agency for Health Care Administration.

This follows the rejection of plans for a new hospital in southern Sarasota County.

The agency last month denied a “certificate of need.”

Sarasota Memorial wanted to build an 80-bed hospital in the Venice and Nokomis area.

The company says it met legal requirements and approval, and that the area needs a new hospital and the proposed services.

However, Bayfront Health Port Charlotte has filed a petition to intervene and support the agency’s decision.
