A convicted double murderer in Sarasota County is sitting in jail, as the state is seeking the death penalty for the second time. John Allen Lee was convicted in 2013 of two counts of first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of Traci Nabergall and Jason Salter. A jury recommended the death penalty, but Florida’s death penalty sentencing was eventually ruled unconstitutional. Lawmakers have fixed the process, so a jury can decide if the death penalty should be imposed.
