Just seven months after Sarasota city commissioners unanimously passed a temporary ban on medical marijuana dispensaries, that same city council has now approved them within the city limits. Nearly 18 months ago, the city was trying to look into how dispensaries would operate in the city, but when Gov. Scott signed a bill giving an ultimatum- that dispensaries had to have the same zoning as pharmacies, or cities had to ban them outright, the ban was voted on. This week, a resolution calls for the 20 pharmacies that exist within Sarasota city limits to dispense medical marijuana in the forms of edibles, oils and vaping. The dispensary ban is lifted effective immediately.
