Sarasota GOP leaders began the process Monday of trying to remove Peter Gemma from the party’s executive committee following reports that have come out, linking him to groups with racist and anti-Semitic views.
The party’s board of directors voted to bring the issue before the roughly 145-member executive committee for a vote at next month’s meeting.
Sarasota GOP Chairman Joe Gruters had hoped Gemma would resign from the executive committee, but Gemma told the Herald-Tribune Monday that he does not “intend to resign.”
