We’re less than a week out from the start of the new school year for Sarasota County schools, and members of the district’s new police force are getting trained on the ins and outs of working in a school environment.

Sarasota County School District Police Chief, Paul Grohowski told ABC-7 so far they have hired 25 officers and three sergeants as part of this school police force.

As of next Monday, all 21 elementary schools will have a newly hired officer at their school. The other schools will be staffed by the school resource officers and school resource deputies already in the middle and high schools from last year.
