Mote Marine Laboratory is one step closer to creating an aquarium at Nathan Benderson Park after the county commission yesterday unanimously approved a future land purchase agreement.
Mote will pay just $100 for the 12-acre parcel just west of I-75.
The commission yesterday said it would give Mote the option to lease the land for $100 per year or sell it for the same price.
A binding agreement between both sides does need to be signed by January.
