Water Shutoff Update With Public Utilities Director

 


Sandbag Operations:

Self-service sandbags will be offered to Sarasota County residents today, Oct. 8, 8 a.m. – noon, at the following locations:

  • Twin Lakes Park, 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota
  • 17th Street Park, 4730 17th St., Sarasota
  • South County Fleet Services, 4571 SR 776/Englewood Road, Venice

Residents are limited to 10 bags per vehicle. Residents are limited to 10 bags per vehicle. Bags will be provided. We are asking individuals to bring their own shovels.


Breeze/Transit Update

There will be no fixed route, OnDemand or Siesta Breeze trolley service on today, Oct. 8. Service will be available only for medical trips by Breeze Plus, as all available resources will be diverted to help evacuate citizens.

No public transit will be available Wednesday, Oct. 9.


DOH-Sarasota

All Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County (DOH-Sarasota) offices will be closed today, Oct. 8, in response to severe weather impacts. Offices will remain closed until further notice.


Curbside Collection and Debris Update:

Sarasota County crews are focusing all efforts on removing Hurricane Helene debris and curbside materials from our community areas in Level A.

For community areas not in Evacuation Level A, all regular garbage, yard waste, and bulk collections are suspended through Wednesday, Oct. 9. Do not put out any materials for curbside collection.

Conditions will be assessed to determine when regular collections will resume after Wednesday, Oct. 9.

All recycling collections are suspended through the week of Oct. 11.

County Landfill Operations:

To help our community expedite storm debris removal before the potential landfall of Hurricane Milton, Sarasota County is providing the option for community members in previously identified unincorporated county areas to take debris from their properties to the county landfill without incurring a fee.

All disposal areas at the Central County Landfill are open today, Oct. 8, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Customers unloading by hand must arrive at least 30 minutes before closing. Applicable disposal fees apply for those outside of Level A. Customers should expect increased wait times and please be patient.


Prescription Medication Access Prior to a Disaster

Under EO 24-215, residents who rely on prescription medication can get early refills regardless of typical limits. The time is NOW to utilize early prescription refill access.


County Operations:
Sarasota County has closed normal operations today, Oct. 8, because county personnel are being activated to perform their emergency role in preparation for Hurricane Milton.


BCC Meetings:

The Sarasota County Board of County Commission Meeting today, Oct. 8, will have an abbreviated agenda based on emergency preparedness. All public hearing items will be rescheduled accordingly.

The Sarasota County Board of County Commission Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 9, is canceled due to the pending storm.
