Sarasota County parks officials have come with a solution they hope will solve -or at least slow down- erosion issues at Blackburn Point Park in Osprey.

Crews put in biodegradable coir logs along part of the park’s shoreline. They’re made of natural coconut fiber and have a five-year lifespan.

They act as an immediate barrier to protect the shoreline from erosion. Mangroves will be now be planted next month to continue the shoreline border as well as increase aquatic and wildlife habitat.
