The way county commissioners are elected in Sarasota County could be changing under a proposed ballot initiative.

Currently, voters only elect at-large commissioners, meaning voters choose all five seats regardless of district. Under a ballot proposal introduced by a group called Sarasota Alliance for Fair Elections, that could be changing come November.

On the general election ballot is a question that would see a change to single district voting. That means voters could only cast votes for the candidate in their specific district, limiting the candidate pool from five to just one.
