The Sarasota County Commission is getting set to hear from area residents before they try and impose a ban on recreational marijuana.

The state hasn’t even legalized it yet, but at Commissioner Mike Moran’s urging, staff drafted an amendment to current laws to prohibit the growing, processing and sale of recreational marijuana should it ever become legal in the state.

County Attorney Stephen DeMarsh told the Herald-Tribune if a law gets passed in Tallahassee, state laws could preempt county laws anyway, making the amendment null and void.
