After a vote by the Sarasota County School Board Tuesday night, county charter schools are getting an extra $1.6M for this school year.
Initially, the board voted to give charters just $525 per student- nearly $300 less than what they had budgeted. The board decided Tuesday to up the per-student amount to $800- still a far cry from the $1300 per student the county’s charter schools got last school year.
School officials told ABC-7 the district won’t be losing any capital projects for other schools despite the increase in charter funding.
