Sarasota County officials confirmed this week that a pipe at a water treatment plant property burst a week ago today during heavy rains and spilled nearly a million gallons of untreated sewage and wastewater into Sarasota Bay.
Officials say the water is safe to go into and use.
City officials from Sarasota told ABC-7 while there are aging pipes, especially within city limits, work is constantly underway to modernize the infrastructure.
