14 new school resource deputies will be on the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office for next school year. Sheriff Tom Knight announced the move Wednesday as part of Governor Rick Scott’s orders for new security plans to be in place statewide following the shooting in Parkland. Knight told ABC-7 he’s looking for former, retired officers who are looking to come back for the 10-month-per-year position. The pay will start at $23.50 an hour, but candidates must already be Florida Law Enforcement certified. Knight says the program will only cost around $63,000.
