The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is shutting down its South County office, effective one week from today.
The office on SR-776 in Venice is no longer needed, according to Sheriff Tom Knight.
In a statement released over the weekend, Knight said with the ease of contacting law enforcement over social media, closing the Venice-based office will allow for “more boots on the ground.”
The closure means the sheriff’s office headquarters in Sarasota will be the main location for citizens countywide to visit a front desk deputy.
