It doesn’t appear the fight between the Sarasota County Sheriff’s office and the county school district will be ending anytime soon.

Tom Knight blasted the school district on Tuesday after taking criticism for allegedly not responding to calls to talk about school security.

The latest row comes after the district decided to remove a school resource deputy from Riverview High School’s campus next school year.

Both Knight and a couple county commissioners called the district’s plan to create their own police force “a disaster,” that school officials are “putting the wrong people in the wrong place without the proper training.”
As for the county commissioners, they told Knight at a Tuesday meeting that they can’t even set a budget for the sheriff’s office yet, since, as of now, they “don’t know what the district is doing” in terms of what staffing Knight will need on campuses.
