The Sarasota County School Board last night voted in favor of a resolution that will not allow teachers to carry guns on school property.

All five board members say they are against arming teachers, but the vote was 3-2. Bridget Ziegler and Eric Robinson voted against the resolution, saying there was language that could potentially cause friction with state lawmakers, which could in turn threaten their budget and funding.

There is currently legislation in both the state House and Senate that would allow teachers to carry guns. ABC-7 reports that Sarasota County’s resolution says if lawmakers expand the state’s Guardian Program, the county will not participate.
