At a Tuesday workshop, the Sarasota County School Board took up a proposal to ban cellphones during the school day.
Currently, district policy allows students to bring phones to school, so long as they are off and “concealed from view” during the school day.
As has been the case for much of the past year, the board is split along a number of lines about the ban.
Some members are in favor of a complete ban, others say phones should be part of the learning process.
