There seems to be more clashing over school security between the Sarasota County School District and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
The district is already in the process of creating its own police force, while at the same time, Sheriff Tom Knight is going ahead with the hiring of more than a dozen school resource deputies.
Those hires come despite insistence from the school district that their police department will up and running by next school. Knight told ABC-7 he’s going ahead with the nearly half-million dollars with of salary additions “in case the school district changes its mind or in case local charter schools need them.”
He said there is no contingency plan in place if the district does, in fact, not need any school resource deputies.
