SARASOTA COUNTY- We’re only midway through wildfire season, and the worst is yet to come, according to the Florida Department of Agriculture.
The department puts Sarasota County at ‘high’ on the fire danger index. Manatee County is at a ‘moderate’ risk. Last year, more than 3,000 wildfires were reported statewide.
Those fires burned more than 74,000 acres of land, and that’s not counting the nearly 285,000 acres that saw controlled burns. Earlier this month, four acres burned at Shamrock Park in Venice.
