Local administrators must continue more detailed analysis of a federal report on the effect that dredging Big Pass would have on nearby beaches.

The Herald-Tribune reports this must happen before county commissioners feel comfortable with the project.

The plan would use nearly a million cubic yards of sand from the shoals of Big Pass to address erosion along Lido Key’s southern beach.

Some Siesta Key residents think dredging the channel and changing Big Pass could damage the area’s most famous beaches.
